FLLAC continues to provide professional development for our own staff and for staff from member districts, neighboring districts and private schools.

Title:          Reducing Anxiety in the Classroom
Presenter:  Jessica Minahan, M.Ed, BCBA

With up to one in four children struggling with anxiety in this county, overwhelmed adults are in need of a new approach as well as an effective and easy-to-implement toolkit of strategies that work.
Through the use of case studies, humorous stories, and examples of common challenging situations, participants will learn easy to implement preventive tools, strategies, and interventions for reducing anxiety, increasing self-regulation, executive functioning, and self-monitoring.
Bio:  Jessica Minahan, MEd, BCBA, is a board certified behavior analyst, special educator and a consultant to school’s nationwide ( Jessica has over seventeen years of experience supporting students who exhibit challenging behavior in urban public school systems.  She is a blogger on The Huffington Post, as well as the author of The Behavior Code: A Practical Guide to Understanding and Teaching the Most Challenging Students, with Nancy Rappaport (Harvard Education Press, 2012) and author of The Behavior Code Companion: Strategies, Tools, and Interventions for Supporting Students with Anxiety-Related or Oppositional Behaviors (Harvard Education Press, 2014).

Title:           Special Education Legal Update
Presenter:   Atty. Vasudevan of Murphy, Hesse, Toomey & Lehane

Attorney Vasudevan will be reviewing new federal regulations, state regulations, and recent local case law impacting special education. Review of BSEA decisions and rulings from the past year will focus on take-home lessons for school administrators and staff. Attorney Vasudevan will discuss changes at the United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights in terms of guidance and investigations and the impact on school districts.

Para-Pro Test

FLLAC Educational Collaborative offers the ParaPro Assessment test for prospective and practicing paraprofessionals.

The test measures knowledge in reading, writing, math, and the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in the classroom. It is designed to satisfy the requirements of the federally legislated No Child Left Behind Act.

This 2 ½ hours timed test has 90 multiple-choice questions to be answered via a computer at the FLLAC Central Office, 2 Shaker Road, Suite D215, in Shirley, MA, 01464.

This test is offered every Tuesday morning at a cost of $55.00.  Please call Marsha Januskiewicz to schedule an appointment at 978-615-4771.

Cancellation Policy

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit a request in writing (via mail, email or fax) no later than 5 business days before the workshop’s start date.  After that time, there will be no refunds or billing adjustments, however, you may send a substitute if approved by your supervisor.

In the event that a course is cancelled by FLLAC Collaborative, we will notify you as soon as possible.  Although every effort is made to avoid last minute cancellations, if an emergency arises, we will do our best to reach you at the phone number and email address you provide.

Inclement Weather:  If the school district where the FLLAC Professional Development Training is being held is closed due to inclement weather, that FLLAC training will be cancelled for that day/evening.
